Junior and Senior House Officer (PGY2+)

We provide training, support and a career pathway in a community hospital. PGY2 are often referred to as Junior House Officers (JHO) and PGY3+ as Senior House Officers (SHO).

Requirements

We recruit Junior House Officers and Senior House Officers using a merit-based selection process which includes assessment of:

  • your curriculum vitae via an online application
  • 2 referee reports
  • interview.

Education

JHO and SHO have focused education, grand rounds, journal clubs and unit tutorials with hands-on practical sessions.

Frequently asked questions

You will be employed by MNHHS at a primary allocation hospital. You may spend the whole year at your primary allocation hospital or you make request to rotate to other Metro North Hospitals. Any such requests will be accommodated as far as possible.

While research is highly regarded, the application process is designed to acknowledge a wide range of achievements, not just academic or medical based. We encourage you to list all of your achievements, both personal and professional.

Employment conditions

  • Award conditions apply – 76 working hours per fortnight, with a minimum of 10 hours off between shifts
  • Five weeks annual leave for Interns, Junior House Officers (JHOs) and Senior House Officers (SHOs)
  • One week of Professional Development leave for JHOs/SHOs
  • Salary Packaging option
