Wound trial paving way for nursing-led care<\/h1>\n

\"\"It\u2019s a now a lot more convenient for many North Brisbane residents to access great, high-quality care with a new wound management trail beginning at Chermside.<\/p>\n

Post Acute Care Service (PACS) Clinical Nurse Alan Shackleton said the Chronic Wound Clinic Trial was a great initiative being undertaken by PACS in collaboration with the Royal Brisbane & Woman\u2019s Hospital, Complex Wound Outpatients Clinic.<\/p>\n

\u201cChronic wounds affect an estimated 17,100 individuals within the Metro North catchment area at a great cost to both the individual and the health service,\u201d Alan said.<\/p>\n

\u201cA chronic wound has more than just a financial impact on an individual\u2019s life causing issues such as depression, pain, reduced mobility and social isolation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"The trial aims to establish the feasibility of a community based, nurse lead, chronic wound clinic, delivering an improvement in health outcomes.<\/p>\n

It also aims to reduce the dependence on acute hospital services through improved support for community-based patients.<\/p>\n

It is anticipated that the trial will have a positive impact on hospital workloads but also make it easier for patients to access appointments in a local setting.<\/p>\n<\/div>
