Research governance, including the ethical review of research, refers to the processes to ensure that research across Metro North Hospital and Health Service, including at RBWH, is conducted according to the appropriate regulatory, ethical and scientific standards.<\/p>\n<p>Read more about <a href=\"https:\/\/metronorth.health.qld.gov.au\/research\/ethics-and-governance\">ethics and governance at Metro North Hospital and Health Service<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Quality Assurance<\/h2>\n<p>Quality Assurance (QA) projects are undertaken within the hospital to evaluate the outcomes of processes and services and to increase the efficiency of the services provided. Quality assurance includes such terms as: \u2018clinical audit\u2019; \u2018service evaluation\u2019; and \u2018quality improvement.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>While QA is not research, it exists on a continuum and has some similarities. However, for those QA projects that do not meet the threshold for research, no ethics review is required, although it is recognised that consideration of whether such review is required will be an important consideration for peer-reviewed journals in the event that the conductor of the QA project wishes to publish the outcomes.<\/p>\n<h3>RBWH Quality Assurance projects 2019<\/h3>\n<p>In 2019, RBWH staff conducted more than 200 QA projects.
