Ninety five new junior doctors will commence careers as interns at Royal Brisbane and Women\u2019s Hospital on Monday 12 January.<\/p>\n
After completing a week-long intensive orientation program, interns embark on rotations in medicine, surgery, emergency medicine and additional elective terms in other specialised areas.<\/p>\n
Acting Executive Director of Royal Brisbane and Women\u2019s Hospital Dr Judy Graves said this is an exciting time of year at the Royal when the new doctors commence their training and have the opportunity to learn from some of the best clinicians in Australia.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs the largest tertiary hospital in Queensland, RBWH provides a comprehensive training program with a wide breadth of specialties, the state\u2019s most advanced technology and access to highly experienced senior medical staff to continue the journey of learning for our interns,\u201d Dr Graves said.<\/p>\n
RBWH Director of Clinical Training, Associate Professor Alan Gale, said an Internship is now the first year of a two-year regularly assessed and supervised program which delivers a medical education foundation for future specialisation in many disciplines.<\/p>\n
\u201cRBWH assists this major transition from student-hood to responsible junior doctor with the development of situational learning and clinical reasoning,\u201d said Associate Professor Gale.<\/p>\n
Intern places at Australia\u2019s biggest teaching hospital are in high demand with RBWH employing 95 interns annually for the past five years.<\/p>\n
They have graduated from universities across Queensland and interstate and their preference for RBWH is a testament to the recognised premier status of RBWH as a training institution as well as a leading national research hub as part of the Brisbane-Diamantina Alliance.<\/p>\n
