Coronary Care Unit
We provide early assessment and intervention for patients experiencing a suspected or actual acute cardiac event, in our 16 bed unit which operates 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Conditions that we manage include:
- acute coronary syndromes
- life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias
- acute congestive heart failure
- aortic dissection
- high-risk interventional cardiac pre/post procedure or pre-surgery patients.
Our services
- Non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV)
- Transvenous temporary pacing
- Elective cardioversions
- Haemodynamic monitoring and intra-aortic balloon pumping (IABP)
- Post percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI)
- Cardiogenic shock.
How to access this service
Admissions to this service are from emergency referral only.
What to bring
Staying overnight or longer
- A dressing gown or cardigan, sleepwear or comfortable day clothes
- Slippers and shoes (low heel, closed-in, non-slip, adjustable and firm fitting around the foot)
- Your toiletries and personal items
- Copy of Advanced Healthcare Directive or Enduring Power of Attorney if you have one
- Something to read or do during your stay
- Medical devices required for your care (e.g. CPAP machine)
- Do not bring large amounts of cash or valuables such as jewellery, watches or other items of value to you
