Intensive Care
Our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) also known as Adult Intensive Care Services (AICS), is a 27-bed facility providing care to critically ill patients with a wide range of conditions. Our aim is to provide appropriate, efficient and excellent care to these patients.
What to expect
Having a family member or friend who is seriously ill in ICU is overwhelming. We want you to feel confident in the care we provide to your loved one. We will endeavour to support you every step of the way during this stressful time.
Specialties
The Prince Charles Hospital ICU provides a range of intensive care services to patients from within the hospital, the Emergency Department and transfers from other hospitals.
Our specialties include:
Our team
The ICU team includes doctors, nurses, therapists and technicians who have extensive training in intensive care. During your relative’s treatment, you can expect to meet them along with other important members of our multidisciplinary team.
Inter hospital transfers
For all all transfers and referrals, the treating specialist may contact the admitting consultant for intensive care services through the TPCH switchboard on (07) 3139 4000.
Research
We have established a Clinician-Driven Research Initiative (AICS CRI) that will be the conduit for all clinical research at the TPCH AICS. A great call-to-action goes here.
Education
TPCH AICS provides a comprehensive education and training program for pre vocational candidates (PHOs) as well as ongoing education opportunities for our staff.
Feedback
Your feedback, positive or negative, is important to us. We also like to hear how our patients are going after they leave ICU.
You can provide feedback on the Family Satisfaction Survey found in the ICU waiting room, by speaking to any of the nursing staff or anonymously by contacting the consumer liaison service on (07) 3139 4479.
