Pre-admission Clinic<\/h1>\n

Prior to your hospital admission, you may have a pre-admission appointment which is usually 2\u20136 weeks before your procedure.\u00a0 At this time your health professional will complete a thorough health assessment and provide information and support about your procedure. This may take place in person, over the phone or video-conference.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll be given information about how to prepare and what to expect before and after your procedure. You\u2019re welcome to ask any questions or clarify any uncertainties.<\/p>\n

What to bring<\/h2>\n

Each time you visit us<\/h3>\n
    \n
  • Your Medicare card<\/li>\n
  • Private health insurance card (if you want to use it)<\/li>\n
  • Health Care Card and\/or concession card (if you have one)<\/li>\n
  • Current medications (prescription, over the counter and herbal medicine)<\/li>\n
  • Relevant x-rays, scans or any other test results or reports<\/li>\n
  • Glasses, hearing and mobility aids<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    For an outpatient or clinic appointment<\/h3>\n
      \n
    • Your appointment letter<\/li>\n
    • Any special\u00a0items listed on your letter<\/li>\n
    • WorkCover claim number (if relevant)<\/li>\n
    • Snacks, a drink or money to buy refreshments<\/li>\n
    • Something to read or do while you wait<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      What to expect<\/h2>\n

      While we aim to keep your appointment on time, please allow 3-6 hours as you may need to see various health professionals including a doctor, anaesthetist, registered nurse, pharmacist, research scientist, social worker, stomal therapist, occupational therapist and physiotherapist. They may discuss the following:<\/p>\n

      • a pre-admission assessment<\/li>\n
      • review of your medical history<\/li>\n
      • admission times<\/li>\n
      • information about the procedure<\/li>\n
      • fasting (if required)<\/li>\n
      • possible blood tests, x-rays, breathing tests or ECG<\/li>\n
      • organise additional tests if required.<\/li>\n
      • paperwork, including consent for procedure<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
