{"id":1630,"date":"2017-06-30T04:43:40","date_gmt":"2017-06-30T04:43:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.metronorth.health.qld.gov.au\/tpch\/uncategorized\/record-injection-funds-chronic-disease-research"},"modified":"2017-06-30T04:43:40","modified_gmt":"2017-06-30T04:43:40","slug":"record-injection-funds-chronic-disease-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.metronorth.health.qld.gov.au\/tpch\/news\/record-injection-funds-chronic-disease-research","title":{"rendered":"Record injection of funds for chronic disease research"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"fusion-fullwidth fullwidth-box fusion-builder-row-1 nonhundred-percent-fullwidth non-hundred-percent-height-scrolling\" style=\"--awb-border-radius-top-left:0px;--awb-border-radius-top-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-left:0px;--awb-flex-wrap:wrap;\" ><div class=\"fusion-builder-row fusion-row\"><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-0 fusion_builder_column_1_1 1_1 fusion-one-full fusion-column-first fusion-column-last\" style=\"--awb-bg-size:cover;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper fusion-flex-column-wrapper-legacy\"><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-1\"><h1>Record injection of funds for chronic disease research<\/h1>\n<p>Fifty research projects tackling Australia\u2019s most\u00a0prevalent chronic illnesses will benefit from a $2.9 million injection of funds from The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_718\" style=\"width: 395px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-718\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1631\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.metronorth.health.qld.gov.au\/tpch\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/08\/tpch-chronic-disease-research.jpg\" alt=\"Success in Innovation and Building Capacity grant\" width=\"385\" height=\"203\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-718\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">TPCH Foundation Board Member Peter Tyquin and Director of Metro North Research Prof Scott Bell congratulate Amanda Corley (member of CCRG) and Dr Rachael O\u2019Rourke (Director of Medical Imaging) on their success in the Innovation and Building Capacity grant category.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The funding round is the largest in the Foundation\u2019s 30 year history and was made through its community initiative The Common Good.<\/p>\n<p>The Foundation\u2019s CEO Michael Hornby said the research teams are working on critical developments in early disease detection, better treatments and improved recovery for patients.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to give chronic disease sufferers back their quality of life,\u201d Mr Hornby said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith this funding, we are not only tackling chronic disease, we\u2019re tackling the serious \u2018brain drain\u2019 researchers face around the world due to lack of funding.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYoung researchers bring with them a range of new ideas and innovations, but increasingly these brilliant minds are being lost as they aren\u2019t able to find the support or funding needed to launch their research careers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s funding announcement is based on a fantastic positive response from the public to The Common Good, &#8211; people in our community who have said \u2018Yes\u2019 to backing these brilliant researchers and scientists.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Included in the research is the world\u2019s largest study on cardiac imaging. More than 4,000 people will take part in a study to develop new, safer and cheaper techniques to diagnose heart disease. As Australia\u2019s biggest killer improved diagnosis will enable earlier and more detailed treatments to be implemented.
