Kilcoy Hospital gets a facelift

Kilcoy Hospital facilities have received a welcome facelift thanks to the Metro North Hospital and Health Service.

Visiting Kilcoy Hospital today, Metro North Hospital and Health Board Chair, Dr Paul Alexander AO, announced the completion of work to enhance existing inpatient and specialist outpatient facilities.

“Local demand for high-quality health services and facilities is continuing to grow in the region and it is important we continue to meet the needs of the local community,” he said.

“The modern facilities will make a great difference to Kilcoy Hospital’s capacity to deliver safe, patient and family centred care to the community and improve local access to specialist inpatient and outpatient services.”

The refurbishment includes modernisation of the old maternity wing and parts of the nursing quarters to cater for planned new health services in renal and oral health, and existing services in allied health.

“The enhancements include a new fully equipped telehealth room to support the use of teleconferencing for outpatient appointments and inpatient consults,” Dr Alexander said.

“Kilcoy Hospital is currently delivering a range of specialist outpatient and inpatient appointments that occur in Brisbane, Redcliffe and Caboolture via teleconferencing.

“The new videoconferencing facilities will provide the platform for the hospital to expand these services, and reduce the need for locals to travel to specialist appointments at Redcliffe Hospital’s Fracture Clinic or Caboolture Hospital’s Allied Health Service.”

The enhanced facilities also include a new physiotherapy gym for allied health patients, a new treatment room for minor procedures and a palliative care room.

“Visitors to the hospital will experience a new reception area, and communication networks in the hospital have also been upgraded,” Dr Alexander said.

Additional service improvements are also being planned in renal and dental health and hospital in the nursing home.

Dr Alexander said work to introduce specialist dental treatment, and dialysis and day infusion services are progressing well and these services are expected to be introduced early in the new financial year.
