Graduates take first step in a health career

Nine local school-based trainees have gained a healthy career start by graduating from the Redcliffe and Caboolture-Kilcoy Hospitals School-based Traineeship Program.
Metro North Hospital and Health Service Board Chair Dr Paul Alexander joined families and friends to congratulate the graduates and present their certificates at a ceremony at Redcliffe Hospital.
“The Redcliffe and Caboolture-Kilcoy Hospitals School-based Traineeship Program has been highly successful with a total of 137 students enrolled in the School-based Traineeship Program since 2005,” Dr Alexander said.
“About 83 per cent of school-based trainees have completed the program and many of these graduates have now secured employment across Redcliffe or Caboolture hospitals.”
“It is pleasing to see that 70 per cent of school based trainees who graduate from this program remain in the health sector 12 months after the completion of their training.”
The nine school-based trainee graduates, who live in Redcliffe, Caboolture and the surrounding suburbs completed their certificate II or III in a range of disciplines including business administration, allied health assistance, health service assistance (nursing AIN) dental assisting and horticulture.
The graduating trainees are also completing their Grade 12 studies at private and public high schools.
