Research Support Network formed

A Research Support Network has been established to support emergency medicine clinicians and staff in Metro North, Sunshine Coast and Wide Bay Hospital and Health Services.

In Metro North, the network will focus on developing emergency medicine research at Redcliffe and Caboolture Hospitals.

The network is funded by the Queensland Emergency Medicine Research Foundation (QEMRF) and led by a newly appointed Research Development Manager, Dr Julia Hocking, who will provide expertise and support for emergency medicine research at participating facilities.

Emergency Department Director at Redcliffe Hospital, Associate Professor Doug Morel, has welcomed the move which aims to grow Queensland’s emergency medicine research capacity through quality emergency medicine research, multi-disciplinary collaboration and translation of new knowledge into better clinical practice.

Recently Associate Professor Morel formalised a collaboration with QUT’s Faculty of Emergency and Disaster Management and a successful project grant from QEMRF will see him facilitate a three phase study aimed at reducing emergency department demand through expanded primary health care practice.

The Research Support Network brings together hospitals and health services, academic partners and pre-hospital emergency care providers across Queensland to benefit patients through emergency medicine research. Further details are available at the Research Support Network.
