Brisbane North Sexual Health Service - COH
The Brisbane North Sexual Health Service – COH is a community facing, patient-centred specialist service to improve access, care and outcomes to people across North Brisbane.
The service is or has:
- culturally and sexually safe and free from stigma
- integrated, inclusive and patient focused
- is free and open to people aged 14 years of age and from all backgrounds
- confidential appointment-based appointments, walk in/drop-in service, for new and existing appointments and long-term follow up
- telehealth and telephone appointments
- testing and treatment of sexually transmissible infections (STIs) including HIV, blood borne viruses and sexual reproductive health.
Our experienced and friendly team includes a specialist medical officer, senior sexual health nurses and an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health worker.

How to access this service
You do not need a referral to access this service, please contact us by phone or email to book an appointment. Drop-in appointments are also available each day.
The Brisbane North Sexual Health Service – COH service is open weekdays from 8.00 am – 4.30 pm.

Brisbane North Sexual Health Service – COH welcomes referrals from Queensland Health, General Practice and non-Government organisations.
GPs should send referrals directly to the clinic using the BNSHS-COH GP referral form.

Tests are free as the Brisbane North Sexual Health Service – COH service is funded by Queensland Health.
This includes visitors to Australia and those without Medicare cards.
Your test results are available within seven working days after testing. Results are usually received via SMS or email.
If a result is positive a nurse or clinician may phone you to discuss treatment options.
You do not have to return in person to receive results unless you require a medical review or treatment.
The Brisbane North Sexual Health Service – COH is located at the Pine Rivers Community Health Centre, 568 Gympie Road, Strathpine.
Parking is free.
The Brisbane North Sexual Health Service – COH takes your confidentiality and the security of your health records very seriously.
Your medical information is confidential and is not shared with others, including partners or other health care providers, unless we have your permission, mandated by legislation or to prevent harm to yourself or others.
Please be aware that the Australian Government’s My Health Record (MHR) records your health summaries, blood tests, scan results and all medications that you have been dispensed from a pharmacy. You can opt out from MHR.
No, the service is open for all the community and priority populations including:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
- people living with HIV
- youth 14-25 years
- women
- men who have sex with men
- correction services
- sex workers
- Culturally and Linguistically Diverse peoples.
If you suspect, you have been exposed to HIV within the last 72 hours please call immediately to make an appointment to your local Sexual Health Service or your nearest emergency department for HIV Preexposure prophylaxis
Having a sexual health test/screening when you do not have symptoms is also okay.
If you suspect you may have an infection, to ensure the test is accurate please be mindful, all infections have an incubation period before recording positive.
Chlamydia, mycoplasma , herpes simplex and gonorrhoea may take one week for test results to show.
Other infections may take longer, but do not delay testing for all STIs, HIV and Hepatitis A,B,C including Syphilis, if you are concerned.
Please ensure that you do not go to the toilet to pass urine for a minimum one hour before attending for an STI check, especially if you are experiencing symptoms.
In addition, you do not need to fast before having a routine check for STIs.
Make sure you have had plenty of water and something to eat if you are planning to have a blood test for STIs at our service.
