Introduction to Cancer Care Services

Welcome from Associate Professor Glen Kennedy, Executive Director, Cancer Care Services.

What is cancer?

Cancer is a disease of the cells. Your body normally makes new cells to help you grow, replace worn-out tissue and heal injuries. When cells don’t grow, divide and die in the usual way they can lead to tumours, either benign (not cancer) or malignant.

The Cancer Council Australia has more information.

Early detection

Some cancers can be detected at an early stage when treatment is likely to be more effective. The Cancer Council Australia has more information.
