More options now available for Caboolture mums-to-be
Caboolture mums-to-be now have access to more local maternity options thanks to a partnership between Caboolture Hospital and two private midwifery-led group practices.
Caboolture Hospital Director of Nursing and Midwifery Anne Clayton said for the first time women now have the option to be admitted to Caboolture Hospital as a private patient to be cared for by their chosen private midwife.
“We are very excited to expand our maternity options for local mums and their precious bundles of joy,” Ms Clayton said.
“Midwives from Coast Life Midwifery and My Midwives Brisbane North are now qualified to use our facilities and access our birthing suites, maternity rooms and equipment.
“These private practice midwives can now support local mums and their families through their pregnancy, birth and postnatal care at the hospital.”
The Eligible Private Practice Midwives groups (EPPMs) add to the four existing public midwifery group practices available to women at the hospital. These are Holding Hands, Ngarrama North, Midwives and Me and Lucina Midwives.
“Providing more personalised midwifery-led options for mums-to-be through pregnancy, birth and the first few weeks of newborn care is so important to the health and wellbeing of mothers and babies,” Ms Clayton said.
“Mums develop a very trusting and treasured bond with the midwives who deliver their babies. We are so honoured to welcome our new private practice midwives to the maternity team.”
At Caboolture Hospital, more than 40 per cent of mothers who give birth prefer the continuity of care model were they are cared for by a midwife or group of midwives throughout their pregnancy.
“This new partnership offers the same continuity of care to women admitted as private maternity patient, but also allows mums the opportunity to receive care closer to home and at their homes after they have given birth,” Ms Clayton said.
Ms Clayton said it was fantastic that Caboolture Hospital could now provide this opportunity to local mums and their families. Each year Caboolture Hospital delivers about 2,000 bubs.
