Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital offers Junior and Senior House Officer rotations that are packaged into streams to create a pathway for your training requirements and career decision-making.

Some of these streams provide house officers with the opportunity to undertake secondments at Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital, Greenslopes Private Hospital and rural placements at facilities within the South West and Darling Downs Hospital and Health Services.

Frequently asked questions

Where will I be working – across Metro North or at just one hospital?

You will be employed by Metro North at a primary allocation hospital. You may spend the whole year at your primary allocation hospital or you can make a request to rotate to other Metro North Hospitals. Any such requests will be accommodated as far as possible. If you are appointed to RBWH, our secondment hospitals include Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital, Greenslopes Private Hospital and rural facilities within the South West and Darling Downs Hospital and Health Services.

I worked as an Intern / JHO last year and didn’t have time to be involved in research. How will this impact upon my application?

While research is highly regarded, the application process is designed to acknowledge a wide range of achievements, not just academic or medical based. We encourage you to list all of your achievements, both personal and professional.

Will all applicants be interviewed?

No. Interviews may be requested upon the discretion of the recruitment panel.

Employment conditions

Award conditions apply – 76 working hours per fortnight with a minimum of ten hours’ time off between shifts.
Five weeks annual leave for Interns, JHOs and SHOs
Professional Development leave for JHOs/SHOs (1 week)
