Ultrasound
An ultrasound uses sound waves to capture live images of your internal body structures onto a screen. It is commonly used to monitor:
- pregnancy
- blood vessels
- joints and tendons
- soft tissues
- internal organs including the liver, gall bladder, kidneys and reproductive organs.
Our services
We offer a full range of diagnostic and prenatal ultrasound services.
How to prepare for your test
There are different preparations required depending on the area of your body being scanned. We will give you instructions on how to prepare for your scan.
What happens during the procedure?
Examinations usually take between 15 and 60 minutes.
After you change into a hospital gown, the sonographer will guide you throughout the procedure.
- You will be asked to lie in position on a trolley.
- Gel will be applied to your skin over the area to be scanned.
- Slight pressure is used as the ultrasound is moved around your body, but it should not be painful.
- You could be asked to hold your breath or roll into different positions during the scan.
- Once the scan is complete, the gel will be wiped off your skin.
What happens after the procedure?
You can eat and drink normally after your scan is finished. Your results will be sent to your doctor.
