Older Persons Mental Health
The Older Persons Mental Health Service provides assessment, management and support for people who have a mental illness over the age of 65 years in the RBWH suburb catchment. Our service works within the community and in the hospital to help people understand their illness and find ways to reduce or cope with illness symptoms.
Our services
Following an initial assessment the team will discuss the treatment options available. If our service is recommended, a mental health clinician will work with the consumer in the community and also provide support if admission to hospital is required.
The treating team includes a range of mental health professionals including a doctor, nurse or occupational therapist. The GP and/or community supports will be kept in contact to ensure that everyone involved with the conusmers’ care understands the plan for treatment and ongoing care.
