Women’s Obstetric Review Centre

The Obstetric Review Centre (ORC) is a 24/7 department for pregnancy related emergencies and clinical advice.

What to do if you’re concerned

1. Call your GP or private midwife in the first instance

If you are concerned about your pregnancy, talking to a health professional about your symptoms may help you feel relaxed and reassured about what is happening. You may be advised to call the hospital and speak to the hospital midwife.

2. Call the hospital

Call (07) 3647 3931 for immediate advice from a midwife or if you plan to come into hospital. The midwife will ask you some questions and if you have the following symptoms:

  • your waters have broken
  • vaginal bleeding
  • you are in labour. Make a note of how often you have contractions and how long they last as this can help determine how far your labour has progressed
  • baby is quieter and moving less frequently than usual
  • other symptoms or concerns about your pregnancy

3.    Call Triple Zero (000)

Call Triple Zero or go to your nearest hospital if:

  • your labour is progressing very quickly and you think you may give birth before making it to hospital
  • you have heavy bleeding (similar to the first day of a period) or have a severe headache and/or blurred vision.

When you arrive

On arrival, make your way to level 5 of the Ned Hanlon Building to the Birth Suite reception. You will then be seen by a midwife or doctor. Women who arrive with more urgent concerns may be seen earlier than others. If your condition changes or you’re concerned while you’re waiting, please let staff know immediately.
