Infectious Diseases

We care for people with a range of infections.

Our services

We treat a variety of infections with a special focus on complex infectious diseases including:

  • skin and soft tissue infections (cellulitis, recurrent boils)
  • follow up from inpatient consultations (medical and surgical infections)
  • osteomyelitis (bone infection)
  • blood borne virus infections (HIV, Hepatitis B and C)
  • investigation and management of fever of unknown origin
  • infections in returned travellers (pre-travel advice or pre-travel vaccinations are not provided)
  • tuberculosis
  • non-tuberculous mycobacterial infections
  • sexually transmitted infections
  • viral hepatitis
  • other infections not listed as per referring doctor’s request.

How to access this service

GP or medical practitioner

Your GP or medical practitioner will need to send a referral letter to the hospital with relevant information.

If there is a waiting list, you will receive a confirmation letter and be advised on what to do next. If there is no waiting list, you will receive an appointment booking letter or we will contact you to arrange a suitable time for your appointment.

Internal hospital referral

If you are staying at the hospital, a clinician may refer you to be seen by the infectious diseases team as in inpatient.

What to bring

Each time you visit us
  • Your Medicare card
  • Private health insurance card (if you have one)
  • Health Care Card and/or concession card (if you have one)
  • Current medications (prescription, over the counter and herbal medicine)
  • Relevant x-rays, scans or any other test results or reports
  • Glasses, hearing and mobility aids
For an outpatient or clinic appointment
  • Your appointment letter
  • Any special items listed on your letter
  • WorkCover claim number (if relevant)
  • Snacks, a drink or money to buy refreshments
  • Something to read or do while you wait
