Please note this is not an exhaustive list of all conditions for outpatient services and does not exclude consideration for referral unless specifically stipulated in the CPC exclusions section. Condition category legend: (AO) – Adults Only Conditions, (A/P-AFF) – Adult and Paediatric Conditions in AFFECTED Patients, (A/P-UN) – Adult and Paediatric Conditions in UNAFFECTED Patients, (PO) – Paediatric Only Conditions.
- Breast cancer (A/P-AFF)
- Colorectal or small bowel cancer (A/P-AFF)
- Endocrine cancer or tumour (A/P-AFF)
- Family history (A/P-UN)
- Female gynaecological cancer or tumour (A/P-AFF)
- Gastric cancer (A/P-AFF)
- Gastrointestinal polyps (not cancer) (A/P-AFF)
- Haematological malignancy (A/P-AFF)
- Individual who has undergone mainstreamed and / or private genetic testing for cancer predisposition genes (A/P-AFF)
- Kidney tumour or cancer (A/P-AFF)
- Other conditions (A/P-AFF)
- Paediatric or adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer (PO)
- Untested blood relative of a person with an identified mutation in a cancer predisposition gene (A/P-UN)

Emergency referrals
If any of the following are present or suspected, refer the patient to the emergency department (via ambulance if necessary) or seek emergent medical advice if in a remote region.

Out of scope services
Not all services are appropriate to be seen in the Queensland public health system. Exceptions can always be made where clinically indicated. It is proposed that the following are not routinely provided in a public genetic service.

Cancer Genetics
- Individuals with a personal history of colorectal cancer diagnosed at age ≥ 50 years with loss of MLH1 and PMS2 on mismatch repair immunohistochemistry AND presence of the BRAF V600E mutation in tumour AND have no other personal or family history suggestive of a familial predisposition to colorectal cancer or gastrointestinal polyps. - Individuals with a personal history of colorectal cancer diagnosed at age ≥ 50 years with normal mismatch repair immunohistochemistry AND have no other personal or family history suggestive of a familial predisposition to colorectal cancer or gastrointestinal polyps. - Individuals with a personal history of endometrial cancer diagnosed at age ≥ 50 years with loss of MLH1 and PMS2 on mismatch repair immunohistochemistry AND presence of MLH1 promoter methylation in tumour AND have no other personal or family history suggestive of a familial predisposition to endometrial cancer. - Individuals with a personal history of endometrial cancer diagnosed at age ≥ 50 years with normal mismatch repair immunohistochemistry AND have no other personal or family history suggestive of a familial predisposition to endometrial cancer. - Individuals with a family history of cancer who are solely being referred for further assessment and management of a suspected new cancer (e.g. elevated tumour markers, abnormal breast imaging).
- Individuals who are not residents of Queensland.
- Individuals solely referred for a family history of breast cancer who do NOT fulfil one or more of the following criteria: – Could be at potentially high risk of developing either breast or ovarian cancer according to the Cancer Australia Guidelines
- fits in the high lifetime risk of breast cancer category according to FRA-BOC
- fulfils criteria for the Medicare rebate for breast MRI
- fits in the moderate (somewhat increased) or high (substantially increased) lifetime risk category according to iPrevent
- have been referred by a specialist surgeon
