X-rays are 2D images of your internal body structures, organs and bones. We use x-rays to diagnose and treat medical conditions and injuries.
Our services
We provide x-ray examinations for:
- fractures
- dislocations
- bone and joint conditions, including long leg films
- chest and abdomen conditions.
Are x-rays harmful?
The amount of radiation you receive will be dependent upon the specific examination your doctor has requested for you. If you have any concerns regarding this examination, you should discuss it further with your doctor as the benefits should outweigh the risks to you.
How to access this service
You need a referral letter from your GP or medical practitioner to access this service, which you can bring yourself or the doctor may send it to the department.
There is no wait list for a plain x-ray and patients routinely receive their imaging promptly on the day of presentation.
What to bring
- Your Medicare card
- Private health insurance card (if you have one)
- Health Care Card and/or concession card (if you have one)
- Current medications (prescription, over the counter and herbal medicine)
- Relevant x-rays, scans or any other test results or reports
- Glasses, hearing and mobility aids
- Your appointment letter
- Any special items listed on your letter
- WorkCover claim number (if relevant)
- Snacks, a drink or money to buy refreshments
- Something to read or do while you wait
