Sexual Health
Sexually transmissible diseases are the most common of all notifiable diseases. The infections are often asymptomatic and they affect marginalised or disadvantaged groups and communities to a disproportionate extent. Approaches to sexual health prevention and control are therefore carefully tailored, coordinated and evaluated.
The Metro North Public Health Unit has a key role in linking the many community-based organisations, care providers and education providers involved in sexual health. This results in less duplication and services which are better targeted and specialised to the needs of the client group. Integration of prevention, health care and follow up is a key feature of a successful sexual health program.
