Healing garden thriving at Kilcoy Hospital

Kilcoy Hospital’s Indigenous Healing Garden is bearing fruit.

The first fig from the garden was recently enjoyed by Facility Manager and Director of Nursing at Kilcoy Hospital, Lyndie Best, and Cultural Capability Officer Gene Blow.

Lyndie described the garden as a ‘healthy garden’ for the hospital, a tranquil space for patients and a welcome addition to the Kilcoy Hospital.

When the garden was first opened last year as part of NAIDOC Week celebrations, Lyndie encouraged patients and members of the community to enjoy the space.

“I encourage people to come, sit and enjoy the peace and the exceptional smells from the local native plants that embrace the reconciliation process between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people,” she said.

Lyndie recently took Indigenous Hospital Liaison Team Leader Neressa Johnston and Caboolture Indigenous Hospital Liaison Officer Stella Laidlaw on a tour of the garden. Her enthusiasm was infectious as she described the different plants, their purpose and how much they were thriving.

Lyndie said she was particularly looking forward to sharing more of the native fruit with hospital staff and making Lemon Myrtle tea in September.
