Indigenous Hospital Liaison Officer (IHLOs) support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander inpatients, outpatients, their carer’s, family and extended family members throughout the hospital experience. IHLOs can be contacted directly or via email IHLO_Referrals_MNHHS@health.qld.gov.au

Indigenous Patient Journey

If your patient is coming to Brisbane for treatment, the Improving the Patient Journey (IPJ) team provides culturally appropriate advocacy and support to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community before, during and after their visit to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital or The Prince Charles Hospital.

They can assist with:

• keeping patient appointments
• providing one-on-one and family cultural support
• transport from the bus, airport or train to the hospital
• helping patients to get excellent healthcare in either of the hospitals.

The Indigenous Acute and Primary Care Team provides cultural support and advocacy for clients in the community to access medical services.  The team provide a home visiting service to ensure care planning and follow up on client needs.
