Redcliffe Hospital Research Symposium 2018

The 2018 Redcliffe Hospital Research Symposium will include local research presentations, display of research and quality improvement posters from the current and previous year, and culminate in a keynote research speaker and a research award ceremony as part of Grand Rounds.

The Redcliffe Hospital Research Symposium aims to provide an annual forum to recognise, celebrate and promote research and quality improvement activities at Redcliffe Hospital. 

All hospital staff, students, and external partners are welcome. 

Program

Time Sessions
9.00-10.00 am Research presentations (followed by morning tea)
10.15-11.05 am Research presentations (followed by a short break)
11.10-11.50 am Research presentations (light lunch available from 11.50 am)
12.00-1.00 pm Research Grand Rounds (keynote presentation and award ceremony)
1.00-4.00 pm Poster viewing session

Abstract and poster guidelines

Individuals or teams meeting one or more of the following criteria are eligible to submit a presentation abstract or poster for the Research Symposium:

  • An employee of Redcliffe Hospital regardless of where the research or quality improvement activity was or will be undertaken (note: previous employees of Redcliffe Hospital are eligible provided they undertook the research or quality improvement project while employed at Redcliffe Hospital).
  • Students and other persons undertaking research at Redcliffe Hospital or in collaboration with Redcliffe Hospital staff, i.e. the research or quality improvement project must link in some way to Redcliffe Hospital.

A research or quality improvement activity must be current (i.e. in progress) or completed within the previous two years (since 1 January 2017) to be featured at the Research Symposium.

Posters that have been displayed at other conferences since 1 January 2017 are eligible for display at the Research Symposium without amendment.

A request to present may be submitted in one of the following categories:

  • Research study concept (5 minute presentation with 1 minute Q & A). Planned studies or studies in progress (i.e. without results) are eligible for this category. Presenters must present their study plan and/or progress to date using a maximum of 5 PowerPoint slides, excluding the title slide (e.g. introduction/aim; methods; progress to date; anticipated relevance, impact or translation into practice).
  • Research study results (7 minute presentation with 3 minutes Q & A). Studies with interim or final results are eligible for this category. Presenters must present their study using a maximum of 7 PowerPoint slides, excluding the title slide (e.g. introduction/aim; methods; results; relevance, impact or translation intro practice).

An abstract and request to present must be submitted by Friday, 17 August

Notification

Places are limited for research presentations and offers to present will be at the discretion of the organising committee. If you are not offered the opportunity to present, you will have the opportunity to display a research poster.

Research or quality improvement posters may be portrait or landscape and must be between A0 and A3 in size (inclusive). Posters must specify the name of the individuals involved. If you require guidance on poster design or printing, please contact the Director of Research or Research Governance Officer, Redcliffe  Hospital (Joel.Dulhunty@health.qld.gov.au or Vanessa.Constable@health.qld.gov.au).

Posters will be on display from 1 pm on 19 September to 4 pm on 20 September. Judging will occur between 2-5 pm on 19 September.

Submit your poster to the Research Governance Office, Education Centre prior to 12 pm on Wednesday, 19 September. Collect your poster from the Research Governance Office from 21-27 November.

Research presentations and posters will eligible for one of six awards on offer. The award categories for the 2018 Redcliffe Hospital Research Symposium are:

  • Best and highly commended research or quality improvement poster
  • Best and highly commended research study concept – 5 minute presentation
  • Best and highly commended research study presentation – 7 minute presentation

Posters and presentations will be judged on the basis of methodology, importance, originality and presentation.
