Royal Race to the Roof honours ANZAC Centenary

This year’s event was the biggest and most successful yet thanks to all the event organisers, supporters and participants who were involved.

The 2015 RBWH Annual Race to the Roof joined forces with the army to help raise much needed funds for cardiac research and awareness of heart disease.

The RBWH was transformed into an Army HQ with military vehicles, camouflage nets, sandbags and tents scattered throughout the Atrium. Over thirty defence force personnel from 8/9 Royal Australian Regiment (RAR) were kitted out in full combat gear and 16 RAR members abseiled into the hospital to kick start the heart stopping 12 storey race which had close to 300 doctors, nurses and hospital staff participate.

Channel Seven’s Sunrise made a special appearance for the event which included an interview with Lieutenant Colonel Matt Clarke, HQ 1st Division, Gallipoli Barracks Enoggera and our very own Dr Amanda Dines, Executive Director of RBWH and Royal Australian Air Force Group Captain.

They both spoke of the important collaboration between the hospital and the army which includes hospital staff that are members of the Army, Navy, and Air Force who travel to combat areas to treat the wounded. Lieutenant Colonel Matt Clarke also spoke of the important connection he has with heart disease, with both his brother and father diagnosed with this cruel illness.
