Professor Ian Frazer will be a keynote speaker at the second Biennial Research Excellence in Cancer Care Symposium on 15 July.

South East Queensland’s leading cancer researchers will discuss advances in cancer care at a forum at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH) next week.

The second Biennial Research Excellence in Cancer Care Symposium on Wednesday 15 July, will bring together researchers from Queensland Health, the University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology, QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute and Griffith University.

The one-day symposium will include presentations on personalised cancer treatment, bone marrow transplant, nursing and supportive care, and medical imaging.

Keynote speaker, Professor Ian Frazer AC will discuss the role of our skin immune system in cancer prevention.  NHRMC Australia Fellow and head of RBWH cancer research, Professor Geoff Hill, will speak about new techniques for preventing rejection responses after bone marrow transplantation.

Other presenters include Professor Claire Rickard, speaking on securing central venous access devices in cancer care; Associate Professor Jane Turner, discussing management of depression in cancer patients, and Dr David Wyld, who will speak about a population-based study of pancreatic cancer care.

The first RBWH Research Excellence in Cancer Care Symposium was held in 2013.
