Community, Indigenous and Subacute Services (CISS) helps people to improve their wellbeing and independence by providing care close to their home.
We are part of Metro North Hospital and Health Service (MNHHS), the largest and most diverse health service in Queensland. We represent one of Australia’s most dynamic nursing workforces, employing more than 3,200 nurses and midwives in clinical, management, education and research roles.

Services within CISS include:
- rehabilitation (inpatient and outpatient)
- transitional care residential and community programs
- interim care for patients who are transitioning from acute hospital care to residential aged care
- Home Hospital services—community-based services that allow patients to be discharged from hospital and provide care such as intravenous therapy, wound care and assistance with activities of daily living in their home or a local community health centre
- palliative care
- chronic disease management
- diabetes services
- acquired brain injury rehabilitation and community pathways

- residential aged-care services.

Our education partners
Metro North Hospital and Health Service is dedicated to the development of the future nursing professional workforce. The Nursing and Midwifery Professional Stream maintains partnerships with more than 14 state and national universities and 3 TAFE providers. Additionally, we have established a strong collaborative network with the Australian Defence Force.

Requirements to practice
Registered nurses and enrolled nurses must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) to practice in Australia. Nurses seeking information in relation to a break in practice or international qualifications should contact NMBA directly for information related to registration.

Non-advertised positions
Not all vacant nursing positions are advertised. CISS invites nurses to apply for base grade positions (registered nurse, enrolled nurse and assistant in nursing) at any time by emailing CISS-nursing_workforce@health.qld.gov.au.
